So the administration changed the name of our degree from “Masters of Studies in Environmental Law” (MSEL) to “Masters of Environmental Law and Policy” (MELP). I personally like the title better because it provides a bit more explanation of what the degree is and how it might be useful for a prospective job; however, we went from being commonly referred to as “measels” to “melps”, which sounds like a terrible disease. I was personally a fan of trying to get people to call us “missiles” (accompanied by a missile-like sound and some hand gestures) instead of “measles” but now that’s out the window. Another option would be to switch the “L” and “P” around (MEPL) and call us “maples” in the spirit of Vermont (shout out to Sam, who thought of that one!).
