The laws, they are a-changin’

I will tell you one thing: it is so interesting to be at law school when  a new president takes over.

In virtually every class, the things we are learning about are changing because of Obama. In our writing class we are doing FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) requests and one of the first things Obama did was reinstate the liberalness that should be taken in regard to the transparency of government. In Administrative Law, we are going over Executive Orders and there is apparently an E.O. in the works by Obama to repeal two of Bush’s Executive Orders that we spent a good deal of time talking about in class.

Sometimes I feel like trying to keep up with everything the new administration is doing is just extra homework. Then I realize that this is really happening, right now, for everyone. It is so important to know our government, what they do, and how they do it. As a MELP, it is too bad we don’t get to take Constitutional Law. Not only would it help in understanding many other law classes, but I think it is important for everyone to have sound background information on the one document that literally binds our country.

On a personal note, I have been reading my pocket Constitution most nights. Did you know that Jefferson did not write the Constitution as most people think? He didn’t even sign it. He was in Paris.
