Earth Day

Its really been Earth Week here at VLS actually. The Environmental Law Society has a committee dedicated to creating and carrying out engaging events for the students and staff throughout the week. Monday kicked off with a “tailgate” party on the back Debevoise lawn. The turnout for a Monday far surpassed the group’s expectations. Although the event was intended to run from 4:30 to 8pm the food ran out by 6:30 due to the high attendance rate. Other activities included guided nature walks around campus, bike blending your own smoothie, photography contest, the key note 40th Anniversary of Earth Day Speaker, Gus Speth, addressed the VLS community yesterday, and this evening is the culminating Trashion Fashion Show competition at Crossroads.

The committee and additional ELS support has had an outstanding presence on campus this week and attention from students and staff alike. Other exciting highlights from ELS this week brought the initiation of a composting program in the VLS Cafe which is a thrilling expansion to furthering VLS’ mission to be responsible citizens to the community and world. It is excellent to see the student activism in motion and the contagious effect it has on the community. The planning, and efforts that have gone into the week’s events make is feel like it is much more than a national day of recognition but a holiday to be remembered, respected, and celebrated.
